See you at FITC Hollywood!

October 11th, 2007

Yeah, so Flash in the Can is coming up quick here, and a hoard of Schematic peeps will be there. I know offhand that at least seven of us will be there, including Robert Reinhardt, Ben Gorton, Dan Cluff, Carlos Zumbado, Leon Coto, Jon Ruppel, Andrew Keegan, and myself. Robert and Jon will both be speaking. Robert is speaking about deploying FLV using FLVPlayback and Jon’s topic will be “Adaptable Intefaces”.

This will be my first FITC, so I’m pretty excited. The last conference I had the opportunity to attend was Flash Forward Seattle and that was a blast an a half. I’m pretty sure this will be a bit different now that I’m at Schematic and we’ll have a whole crew there. Sadly though, the conference is only 2 days instead of the five day Flash Forward in Seattle.

So here are some of the sessions I definitely intend to be in:

Chris Charlton - Motion XML, Chris will be unveiling a pretty cool AIR app that deals with gestural xml motion created in air from assets dragged onto an AIR app, really dope stuff. I had the chance to preview this at LAAIR during the Iron Flex competition.

Aral Balkan - Let’s Talk About SWX, Baby!, Since I’ve recently been on an AMFPHP kick, this should be fun. I heard Aral speak at Flash Forward, he’s a top knotch speaker, I highly recommend this session, I’m pretty sure it’ll be the dope.

Chris Allen - Think You Know What Red5 Is? Think Again!, I’ve also been on a little FMS/Red5 kick, so this should be informative and fun. I’ve been trying Red5 out, but could really use some guidance.

John Grden - Papervision 3d component, Its John Grden, what more do I need to say!!!

Larry Drolet/Michael Ritchie - Concepts on AIR, I’m really digging into AIR, so this should be fun.

Robert Reinhardt - Deploying FLVPlayback, Schematic’s very own Robert Reinhardt, VP of Multimedia Platforms, gotta be there for support, entertainment, and cuz he knows his stuff!

Jon Ruppel - Adaptable Interfaces, Jon is also a Schematic madman, he leads the Advanced Interface Group at Schematic, making cool prototypes with ultra rad interfaces that’ll blow your socks off.

Most important of course is the party, and if your at FITC, swing by if you see any of us, despite being a little odd, we’re pretty down to meet just about anyone and everyone. I wonder how many drink tickets we’ll get!

Speaking at LAAIR Iron Flexer

October 8th, 2007

So Schematic’s LA Multimedia Platforms Groups presented at LA-AIR last week ( http://www.laflash.org/community/node/248 ). We presented our website, schematic.com and the AIR thumbnailer we use to thumbnail the dynamic contend thats driven by CMS. It was great getting up infront of a relaxed crowd and showing off the site, and it was great to present with Dan, Ben and Mike.

It was actually my first speaking flash/flex speaking engagement and hopefully it wasn’t noticeable that I was a little nervous. It helped that I went last and closed, the rest of the guys definitely warmed up the room ahead of me. I think what made it easiest is that since the projector didn’t like Vista it was pretty much free form by the time I was up at bat. Fortunately we got it to behave long enough to show off the site and see 3/4 of the Reel.

It was great meeting the guys at Almer / Blank, I actually won one of the many raffle drawings! The books they offered were all already on my bookshelf, and they were nice enough to hook me up with the FOE Object Oriented Actionscript 3.0 book. Not sure how this will hold up to EAS3 ( Moock ) and AS3 Design Patterns ( Sanders & Cumaranatunge ), but if it doesn’t at least it looks like I own like every AS3 book out there so far. I still need to wade through the second half of Moock’s book, which I have to say has been the best AS book I’ve read in a long time.

Well, I’m looking forward to future opportunities to speak at LAFlex/Air and LAFlash!

Schematic V3 HomepageSchematic V3 Zoomed out navigation

I spent my first four months at my new company, Schematic working with Roger Braunstein and Michael Avila on the all new Schematic.com. Here are some of the pages on the site that I’d like to highlight: MotionReel, Image/Video Media player, Our Clients.

Plenty of people have already blogged about this site, so I’ll list some of the interesting details, and then a list of blogs of people talking about it.

  • Fully CMS driven
  • Flash & Html support
  • Serverside AIR Thumbnailer that generates Live thumbs of the CMS up-datable pages.
  • SEO
  • Badass UI and design!
